PLEASE help me with my summer reading list! (and here is some help with yours)

Happy Wednesday Magical Creatures!

Trucking through my last week of classes has given me MAJOR spring fever, so I can’t stop thinking about the beautiful summer to come.

As many of you already know, I will be spending all summer on the beach in Charleston! (I have plenty of sunscreen, don’t you worry my fellow pale creatures of the moon.)

I’ve been wanting to put together a summer reading list, and I just have no clue where to start.

SO.

Here is how this is going to work: I am going to give you a few of my own suggestions for your summer reading list, and I want you to give me a few of your suggestions for my summer reading list!

You can contact me with your suggestions by commenting on this post, commenting on my Instagram picture (@hannahgbishop), comment on my Facebook post, or by emailing me at girlicorn@gmail.com.

There are a few books I think you should add to your summer reading list.

My first suggestion for you is The Little Book of Mindfulness by Patrizia Collard.

This book is filled with tips and tricks to meditation and mindfulness. Its filled with five to ten minute exercises that you can fit into your daily schedule to bring peace and happiness into your day! This book has picked me up and put me back together more times than I can count.

The second book on my list is the classic SciFi novel by Douglas Adams, Hitchhikkers Guide to the Galaxy.

unnamed

First off I’d like to apologize for the fact that I own the book with the movie cover. My original copy has been lost for years. In this book, your average joe, witty British man is warned seconds before of the earth’s destruction, and escapes with his friend Ford, an alien from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, by hitchhiking onto a spaceship. He is thrown into an adventure across the wide expanses of the universe aided by The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. If you like adventure, space, and laughing harder than you ever have before while still making you question your whole life, read this PLEASE.

The next book to add to your list is Eat Pretty by Jolene Hart.

Eat Pretty might absolutely destroy you, especially if you enjoy eating whatever you want. It has really helped me understand what I need to eat if I want to look my best. I want to have shinier hair? More squash in my diet. I want my skin to clear up–did you know that non-organic dairy products have hormones in them that can cause acne? Living a healthy (and beautiful) lifestyle is much easier with this book at hand.

Next up is Across the Universe by Beth Revis.

This book is in no way related to the movie with Jim Sturgess. BUT, its an absolutely incredible read. Amy’s parents are needed for a mission on another planet, and she chooses to be cryogenically frozen with them for 300 years on the way there. But here’s the catch: someone wakes her up 50 years early, and no one knows why. She encounters an entire new society that has evolved on the ship while she has been sleeping, and their seems to be some dark secrets behind this new government. This book is so good that you will not be able to put it down once you’ve started.

I like SciFi if you can’t tell.

The next book on your list should definitely be Gluten is My Bitch by April Peveteaux.

Sorry for the cursing, Mom…

This book is absolutely hilarious and so well written. I picked it up after I figured out I had a wheat allergy, and never regretted it once. April Peveteaux has chaperoned me through gluten-free life in the exact way that I needed. I highly suggest it if you are thinking about being gluten-free or if you just want to understand it.

The last book features my greatest love, Lauren Conrad’s Beauty.

FullSizeRender-5  FullSizeRender-9

LAUREN WHY? WHY ARE YOU PERFECT? Every girl should be gifted this book on her 13th birthday so she never has to go through middle school without understanding makeup. I was a disaster in middle school. In this book LC explains every aspect of beauty you could ever want. It has dos, don’ts, tips and tricks for every thing makeup, hair, nails, and even skincare. She also has another book in this series called Style, but I kind of fundamentally disagree with learning about style from a book, since style is a very personal thing. Beauty, however, is a great tool to keep around.

Here is a link to buy all of these books instantaneously (dangerous, I know):

The Little Book of Mindfulness, $7.99

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, $7.19

Eat Pretty, $10.99

Across the Universe, $9.63

Gluten is My Bitch, $12.30

Lauren Conrad’s Beauty, $12.40

So don’t forget to leave me a comment or contact me in one of the ways I mentioned above with some of your suggestions for my summer reading list.

Thanks for helping me out guys, you da real MVPs.

Glitter and Rainbows,

The Girlicorn
