a midi-fall trend (aka let’s twirl)

Happy Thursday, Magical Creatures!

I hope that you are all finding some sort of peace during this very stressful week.

I am here to distract you for a moment with fashion.

I want to discuss a trend that has swept me off my feet and inflitrated my wardrobe. Hopefully it will stick around for a (moderately) long time.

Yes, I’m talking about the midi-skirt.

They are so feminine and flattering, and they might be a little more versatile than you might think.

Personally, I love a full, calf-length midi with an intriguing but classic pattern. It must be completely twirl worthy.

I am dying to make my own midi-skirts with lavish fabric and vibrant hues. Unfortunately, I can’t sew. Would anyone want to give me lessons? (please)

Now, about working this piece into your wardrobe. I’ll show you how I would wear this specific midi-skirt for any occasion. This is, of course, purely for inspiration purposes. Don’t forget that you are the best fashion consultant for yourself.

In advance, sorry about the terrible lighting. Anthony did a wonderful job in slightly terrible circumstances.

Going to Class:

Contrary to popular belief, you can definitely dress down a midi. You don’t have to be dressing up to rock this mid-length style. Try pairing it with sneaks or booties (I love my motorcycle booties from Target), and either a vintage tee or sweater. Keep hair and makeup casual, and no one will ask, “Why are you all dressed up today?” Instead they will say, “You look so cute AND casual!”

Going to the Office:

I will usually pair the skirt with a slightly structured top for business situations. I add tights or hose (!!!!!!) to make the look a little more modest and warm while giving my legs extra length. Experiment with heels or classy flats, some simple jewelry and a sleek hairstyle. I would totally wear this outfit to an interview, because when I feel confident about how I look, I usually do better under pressure.

Going Out:

Ditch the tights (unless it is REALLY cold), and go for a fun shoe like this peep-toe wedge. I made it a little edgy by adding a leather jacket and a bold lipstick. Underneath the jacket is a fitted sleeveless crop top.

It is entirely acceptable to splurge on this piece because there are so many different ways you can wear it! On the other hand, I have found some great skirts at Goodwill.

Here are a few super cute midi-skirts that are currently on the market. Click on the picture to find them online.

Have a good weekend. Twirl away, magical creatures!

Stay positive.
